Bardstown Bourbon Company is one of my favorite distilleries for their experimental releases. When I heard of a rye whiskey aged in West Virginian cherry oak barrels I didn’t have high hopes to be honest.
But when I got a pour of it at their tasting room as part of a flight, this bottle stood out. I get boozy cherry like a cherry pie. I do get a rye spice and wintergreen mint but the cherry is toning the spice down. Palate is a thick syrupy desserty cherry with the winter fresh on the back leaving a great finish. Unique enough for me to pick up a bottle for myself.
